Guides for your community website

Short how-tos for the jobs that come up after launch — keep wipe notes honest, point Discord buttons at a real invite, wire a domain, and keep staff, rules and whitelist pages in sync with how you actually run. GameSignal is web hosting for the site players open in a browser, not game server hosting.

What you can fix yourself

Each guide assumes you have a template on GameSignal hosting (or a local copy). For the full edit workflow — VS Code, config.js, colours and images — start with Edit Templates.

Schedules

Wipe & schedule pages

Where wipe countdowns and map notes live on Rust and DayZ templates, what to change before every wipe, and how to avoid the classic “site still says Thursday” problem when Discord already moved on.

Discord

Discord invite links

How js/config.js drives every Discord button on the site. Honest limits: invite URLs and join CTAs work out of the box; live member widgets need a server ID and Discord’s own settings — not magic embeds.

Domains

Connect your domain

High-level DNS for pointing a domain you already own at GameSignal hosting — A vs CNAME, what SSL covers, and when to open a ticket instead of guessing at registrar screenshots.

Applications

Whitelist & application pages

Editing Ashfall-style whitelist pages, what the demo form actually does, and sensible ways to send applicants into Discord tickets or application bots without overselling “form backend” features.

Team

Staff & officer pages

Duplicating and pruning staff cards, roles that match how you moderate, and keeping the roster current when people step down so the site doesn’t look abandoned.

Policy

Rules players will read

Rewriting template rules so they match your wipe cadence, raid policy and Discord appeals — shorter sections, clearer bans, fewer walls of text nobody scrolls past.

How to use these guides

Pick the guide that matches the page you’re stuck on. Keep a local backup of your template folder, edit in VS Code, preview index.html in a browser, then upload via cPanel File Manager when you’re happy. The step-by-step for that loop lives on Edit Templates.

If you’d rather not touch files, Managed plans can apply branding and common page updates for you — start from Hosting or Contact.

Hosting vs game servers

GameSignal hosts the website: home, rules, staff, Discord join links, wipe notes, whitelist copy. Your Rust, DayZ or Minecraft game server stays with whatever provider you already use. The site tells players where to connect; it does not replace the game host. That split is also covered in the FAQ.
